can i upgrade my laptops graphics card?

if i can,, would it be worth it? i heard certain dell models can have their graphics cards updated, if its not worth it, can somebody suggest a good gaming laptop, my specs are:
intel(R) pentium(R) cpu p6200 @ 2.13ghz 2.13 ghz
3G of ram
64bit
intel(R) hd graphics card
also: is it possible to update my processor?

We would need the model number of your laptop to make a determination. But probably you can’t upgrade the graphics card. Your specs say you have the Intel integrated graphics. Which means the graphics card is permanently affixed to the motherboard and is an integral part of the machine that cannot be changed or bypassed.

Some laptops do have GPUs that can be switched out. However, this is rare and the GPU choices are usually very limited. If some Dell models do have a swappable GPU I would expect it to be their XPS line or Alienware line of laptops.

You probably can upgrade your processor, if you wish to. But it will mean disassembling the laptop to a degree you may not be comfortable with. And you’ll have to have thermal grease or a thermal pad for the new chip.

Unless you have a serious need for gaming on the go, I would go for a desktop rig instead. High end gaming machines are expensive enough as it is, and putting it in a laptop form factor will make it doubly so.

Also, desktops, especially for gaming, give you more flexibility. You can upgrade your video card periodically. You can get a hardware accelerated sound card. You can get more memory more cheaply. You’re more likely to be able to find a hard drive that spins at 10,000 RPMs for a desktop. And you can even swap out your motherboard if need be. And a mouse and keyboard beat out a trackpad any day for aiming.

I always suggest building your own desktop gaming rig. It’s easier than you might think. It is more expensive than getting an off the shelf unit, but you get to customize it to your needs.

If you do go the “build your own” route, I have one suggestion for you: Don’t overlook the importance of the power supply. And I don’t just mean raw wattage. Get a high quality, tough power supply. I’ve had two power supplies from PC Power and Cooling and they have never given me a lick of trouble in many years.
