Buy Laptops Online
What usually comes with a laptop you buy online?
Specifically, those of you who have ordered laptops from Dell. What do you get with it other than the AC adapter and batteries?
Reading online, I gathered there’s no back-up CDs, no manual, nothing. Is this true? Do they just send you a box with exactly what you ordered and nothing else?
Are all brands similar or do different companies have different policies?
Also, how likely is it that the laptop will have a defect? I keep on reading reviews online about how people received “defected” laptops and had serious issues with Customer Service.
I’ve bought a laptop from Dell each of the past three years and got:
(a) a restore CD for Windows
(b) a drivers CD
(c) other bundled CDs (usually Roxio CD software and Microsoft Works)
(d) a manual
I have also bought laptops from other on-line vendors and, in their case, there is a likelihood you will only get bespoke restore CDs (usually CDs burnt by a technician from your new laptop with writing in marker – which, although they work, look shoddy) or even worse just a leaflet strongly advising you to do this yourself (on your own blank CDs) as a preliminary step.
Fortunately Dell haven’t sunk that low/cheap yet in my experience.
